The BSE Sensex closed the day at 27,308.60, up 51 points, or 0.2%, while the broader Nifty50 ended at 8,435.10, up 18 points or 0.2%. GAIL India Ltd, Tata Motors, ONGC, ITC and Bharti were top gainers while Sun Pharma, Axis Bank, Lupin, Wipro and HDFC were losers in the Sensex.
Advancing Sectoral Stocks:
BSE Oil & Gas index was the top sectoral gainer, which grew up 2 percent. Among individual stocks, Gail India Ltd soared 5.6% to Rs 464 on the BSE after the company declared a bonus issue and fund raising plans. It was the top Sensex gainer. Petronet (+3.4%) and Indian Oil Corpn (+ 3.3%). Other sectoral gainers included BSE Telecom (+ 1.4%) and BSE Energy (+ 1%).
Hatsun Agro Products hit a record high of Rs 454, up 14% subsequent to the company reported a strong 64% year on year growth in net profit at Rs 28.81 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2016. Thanks to gains in index heavyweight and sectoral stocks today.
